I am a designer, and design leader, with 15+ years experience creating brands and product experiences across a wide range of industries including healthcare, e-commerce, energy management, arts, entertainment, and education. I’m driven by a deep interest in how technology, data, and design can, and continue to, reshape society and the human experience, particularly around sensitive topics such as mental health, death, politics, and intimate relationships. My design approach and philosophy is characterized by a strong emphasis on cross-functional collaboration, systems thinking, and a drive to thoughtfully blend technology, data, human factors, and aesthetics to solve big problems.
As a leader, I'm deeply dedicated to the success of others and seek to create the conditions necessary for people to experience professional growth, build productive relationships and engage in meaningful work with room to experiment, fail, learn, and try again. I've built and led some of the most productive and high-functioning teams in my organizations. By establishing clear vision, expectations, thoughtful planning, deep listening, and actionable feedback I help teams deliver product solutions that move the needle while helping individuals realize their potential.
I also enjoy participating in the broader design community through speaking engagements, mentorship, and education. I've shared learnings and perspectives from both my personal and professional work at Interaction20, Interaction17, IA Summit, UX Week, and SXSW. If you are interested in having me speak or run a workshop, please reach out!
Outside of work, you can find me on one of my many passion projects. Embroidery, gardening and the ongoing restoration of a 1899 Queen-Anne styled American Foursquare house in my hometown of Evansville, IN.
“The role of the designer is that of a very good, thoughtful host - whose energy goes into trying to anticipate the needs of his guests.”
